1. Kampong Glam is named after the Gelam trees that grew in the area.
   
2. Local food like satay, mee siam and nasi padang had their beginnings in Kampong Glam.
3. The original Istana Kampong Glam was a wooden structure located to the east of Beach Road and occupied an area twice the size of the current compund.
4. In 1989, Kampong Glam was gazzeted as a conservation area by the Urban Redevelopment Authority.
5. The shops along Arab Street close on Sundays.
